Scottish rugby has struggled in recent times. Poor finishes in the 6 Nations, often battling it out with Italy for the wooden spoon have become a regular occurrence forthe Scottish rugby supporters. However, they have had some famous performances in recent years, nitably, beating World Champions England at Murrayfield in front of a capacity crowd.
It looks as though these famous victories will remain few and far between. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, the lack of money that the SRU has means they struggle to finance the game both at grass roots, academy and professional level. This lack of finance has led to the restructuring of Scottish provincial rugby resulting the scrapping of the Borders. Now there are oly two Scottish clubs playing in the Magners League and Heineken cup. Also a lack of young people playng the game means there is less talent coming through the ranks compared with the 70s and 80s. Youngsters on the majority play football with few schools even offering rugby as an option
