South African rugby is on a real high at the moment. They are the current World and Tri-Nations champions and have just beaten the British Lions 2-1 in a 3 test series. Although they are not the most creative of teams, they’re very physical and almost beat teams into submission. The uglier side of their physical approach was displayed in the British Lions test series with Bakkis Botha and Shalk Burger both picking up bans for foul play.
The South Africans have an excellent defence and a powerful pack. They also have the best scrum half in the world in Du Preez who provides them with most of their attacking direction. In addition, they have Brian Habanna who is probably the best Wing in the world. They don’ tend to create many attacking chances but when they do, they usually take them.
